Chamber Members Play “Games with the Geeks”

By Danielle Wiseman, Staten Island Chamber of Commerce

On Thursday, August 18th, approximately thirty Chamber members convened at Dave & Buster’s in the Staten Island Mall for a fun afternoon of “Games with the Geeks,” an educational and recreational event co-hosted by the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce and one of its Anchor Tier members, Tekie Geek.

This unique event, the first of its kind, was created as an opportunity for Chamber members to learn about the security and efficiency of Microsoft365 from a thought leader in the IT industry. Mike Bloomfield, President Geek of Tekie Geek, presented on the benefits of Microsoft365 for small businesses and engaged one-on-one with members to discuss questions and concerns about their own cybersecurity.

“Unfortunately even with all of this cybersecurity protection, the weakest link will always be humans,” says Bloomfield. “You have to make sure you’re training your employees because all it takes is one employee clicking the wrong link to put your entire business out.”

Bloomfield is a connoisseur in IT and was able to answer every question that members had, even allowing them to do a complimentary dark web scan to see if their company data exists on the dark web. He carefully laid out fact after fact on cybersecurity, showing members why they should care about hackers and how to effectively protect their businesses.

Following the Microsoft365 presentation, Tekie Geek gave every attendee an unlimited play card to Dave & Busters and a free Oculus Quest 2 to a random member attending the event. Dean Marlin, Financial Services Professional at New York Life, was the lucky winner.

Our members had a blast trying out games, meeting new people, and learning about Microsoft365. Thank you to Tekie Geek for a wonderful event!
