The Heart of Business:

Serving Our Communities

Beyond Storefronts

Small businesses, nonprofits, and organizations are key to the continued vibrancy, sustainability, and social fabric of our community. But those guided by a clear and compelling “why”—their core purpose or mission—are the businesses that go above and beyond to make Staten Isand a better place to live and work.

We interviewed five business and nonprofit leaders who serve our community far beyond the scope of their storefronts.

A Note from Staten Island

Borough President Vito Fossella

It is always a pleasure to support the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce in its mission to sponsor, promote and support our vibrant small business economy on Staten Island. We are a borough built on small business, and the Chamber is an excellent resource to support those looking to do business and contribute to our homegrown economy.

This year’s theme, The Heart of Business: Serving Staten Island Beyond Storefronts, echoes the foundation of what makes Staten Island special. It highlights five prominent Staten Islanders who take their role as providers for the Staten Island community to heart and are dedicated to giving back.

I offer my congratulations to the business owners and leaders you have highlighted: Roosevelt Board, Peter Botros, Dr. Michele DeSimone, Jennifer Sammartino, and Shawn Stradford.

These five individuals see their role as business and organizational leaders as a platform to do good for the people of Staten Island. They seem always ready to serve the community. For their commitment to supporting the wellbeing of Staten Island, we are truly grateful.

As always, my best wishes for the continued success of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce and the thriving small business community.
