Doubling Down on Staten Island's Workforce

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented effect on businesses of every shape, size, and industry. Following a tremendously difficult time for employers and employees, the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce is doubling down on our local workforce initiatives. In an effort to boost employment and strengthen the workforce of Staten Island businesses, we’re proud to introduce two new initiatives: our expanded Job Board and our partnership with Coursera.

The Chamber’s expanded Job Board is a free service for local businesses and job seekers, featuring hundreds of jobs from local businesses. New jobs are added daily, and employers can post their own openings. The Job Board accommodates various employment types and encompasses jobs across all skill levels, fully customizable job descriptions, and offers convenient ways to apply. With more than 10,000 views since launch, the service is an excellent – and free – way to find employees. Coursera is a leading online learning platform for higher education and offers various courses, specializations, certificates, and degree programs. Users can browse from thousands of courses in different specializations such as business (finance, marketing, etc.), data science (Python, SQL, etc.), and health (patient care, nutrition, etc.). With this knowledge, job seekers can diversify their skillsets and become attractive candidates for in-demand jobs. Additionally, employers can utilize Coursera to strengthen the skills of their current workforces. Access to Coursera – and all of the program’s courses – are available to all members at no additional cost. To learn more, visit: https://www.sichamber.com/coursera

“When you’re a small business, time is everything – and finding a right candidate with the right skills is not easy,” said Linda Baran, President & CEO of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce. “Having hyper-local resources like our Chamber’s Job Board and access to Coursera goes a long way in strengthening the workforce, and overall economy of our borough. Local jobs are not easy to find, so we’re proud to offer these exciting tools for Staten Islanders during a difficult time.”

The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce has represented the interests and served as the voice of local businesses of all sizes and sectors in our borough for more than 125 years. We have served thousands of businesses and countless employees with trusted guidance and dependable information to keep businesses running, and, in turn, boost Staten Island’s economy. These exciting new initiatives are the latest demonstration of our commitment to Staten Island, its businesses, and all of our citizens that make our borough a special place to live, work, and play.
