NYC Celebrates Two Staten Island Businesses for More than 100 Years of Service
On February 27, 2020, the New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS) hosted 6 New York City businesses - two from Staten Island - for more than one hundred years of service to their communities. SBS Commissioner Gregg Bishop and Council Member Mark Gjonaj introduced the business owners and awarded them with Mayoral certificates of recognition, free advertising on LinkNYC kiosks and on social media, and a one-year complimentary membership to NYC & Company.
Among the businesses honored were Holtermann’s Bakery (Great Kills) and Supreme Chocolatiers (Travis), both of which have served Staten Island for more than a century. Upon accepting her award, Jill Holtermann of Holtermann’s Bakery proudly wore the hat of Clifford Holtermann, her late father and grandson of Claus Holtermann, the bakery’s founder. Regarding her father, Holtermann said, “he would have loved this. I miss him dearly.” Standing at 142 years-old, Holtermann’s Bakery was the oldest of all of the businesses honored.
Accepting the award for Supreme Chocolatiers was Mike Katsoris, the second-generation owner of the 109 year-old Supreme Chocolatiers. “Running a business for so long is not easy,” Katsoris said, “but we do it because we love it, and we love our community.”
The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce was proud to represent Chamber Member Holtermann’s Bakery as well as Staten Island business Supreme Chocolatiers. In an introduction to the crowd, Chamber President & CEO Linda Baran stated, “We are so honored to represent these fantastic businesses. You are the backbone of New York City.”
