It seems helping run a full-service parking management company is not so different than running a sports franchise.

“Finding a good team to put on the field has always been my main priority. That’s how you get longevity,” said Craig Druyan, VP of operations for Parking Systems Valet Service.

To an outsider, it may seem all valet services are the same. When you go to a restaurant or hall, it shouldn’t matter who takes the keys to the car. However, there is a difference why Parking Systems is different than the other competitors.

“We have a corporate office behind us. We have hundreds of years of experience between our main partners. We have knowledge of innovations, state-of-the-art equipment, and we have the best insurance coverage in the industry,” said Druyan. “We always try and make it a pleasant environment for our workers. We keep everybody happy.

“We have safety courses on driving because the vehicles change, so you have to know how to park certain vehicles. You have to keep up on the technology,” he added. “You have to know how to deal with stressful situations. Everybody must be trained. You have to put a lot into it. A lot goes on behind the scenes.”

That behind-the-scenes work has helped Parking Systems Valet Service create a reputation for excellence in valet service, parking management, transportation service, facility maintenance, revenue control and consulting. Currently, the company services more than 350 locations with over 1,200 employees and accommodates over 10 million vehicles on an annual basis.

Despite all that experience, Parking Systems Valet Service still needs to rely on doing things the right way and hope people are happy with the service they provide.

“That’s the hard part. You need to adjust by going to high-end places. You have to find people, and they have to find you. You have to have good past relationship and good repeat business,” he said.

The vice president of operations said forging and keeping quality relationships is one of the reasons Parking Systems Valet Service is celebrating its 25th anniversary with the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce this year.

“I keep my connections open, and I get the literature from the Chamber of Commerce to keep updated,” he said. “It’s always good to be in good standing and show you’re a reputable company. And that’s why I stay with the Chamber.”
