2020 Chamber Board Installation
On January 16, 2020, State Supreme Court Justice Orlando (Lindy) Marrazzo Jr. administered the oaths of office for the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Board, Board, and Foundation Board for 2020 during the Board Installation & VIP Reception Breakfast at The Historic Old Bermuda Inn in Rossville.
City Council Minority Leader Steven Matteo gave the keynote speech and spoke to some of the borough’s top business leaders about his work giving businesses in his district a stronger voice. Matteo -- who was elected to represent the Mid-Island-based 50th City Council District in November 2013 -- cited his efforts with Business Improvement Districts and merchant associations, as well as his efforts to assist businesses with quality-of-life issues. He also fielded questions from the crowd and discussed speed cameras, transportation concerns, property taxes, and Dept. of Buildings issues.
New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon also presented an abbreviated State of the State recap and discussed some of the larger issues that Gov. Andrew Cuomo plans to address this year. She also cited New York State’s positive employment numbers and growing New York's Green Economy amongst other initiatives.
Chairman of the Board Mike Assenza gave a presentation detailing the Chamber’s highlights over the past year. He mentioned the success of the organization’s positive financials, signature events, and achievements, such as partnering on an application that secured $10 million for Downtown Staten Island in funding through the NYS Downtown Revitalization Initiative.
Gianna Chuppe kicked off the festivities with a resounding rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
