Chamber celebrates excellence in Staten Island’s commercial and residential properties for design and construction at annual Building Awards Luncheon at the Richmond County Country Club.
The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce celebrated excellence in Staten Island’s commercial and residential properties for design and construction during the annual Building Awards Luncheon at the Richmond County Country Club.
The prestigious Chairman’s Award, the highest honor in the Chamber’s Building Awards program, was given to the the multi-level Viking Student Center located at St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School in Huguenot. The entry was submitted by Emrys Building Consultants, Inc., and school principal, the Rev. Michael Reilly.
The Economic Development Award recognizes an entry that has helped revitalize a struggling business district, either by providing jobs or by inspiring other businesses to relocate to the area. This year’s Economic Development Award winner was Empire Outlets for its impact in the Downtown Staten Island area. The entry for Empire Outlets, which is located at 55 Richmond Terrace in St. George, was submitted by Steven J. Korkowski of Sweetbrook Nursery & Garden Center and Joseph Ferrara of BFC Partners.
The Hard Hat of the Year Award recognizes the resiliency and skills of a lead applicant who face significant challenges, yet completed the project on time and within budget. This year’s Hard Hat of the Year Award winner was the Cilindrello/Romhen Residence in Dongan Hills Colony, which was submitted by Nicholas Tamborra, R.A. of Tamborra Architecture and Construction, P.C.
Special recognition was given to the Joseph A. Verdino Field of Dreams baseball stadium at South Shore Little League in Tottenville, which was awarded the Albert P. Melniker Award, for enhancing the quality of life on Staten Island.
The Building Awards Luncheon was co-sponsored by Kamco Supply Corp and the Community Health Center of Richmond.
