Chamber Meets with Elected Officials in Washington, D.C.
On Wednesday, June 21, members of the Chamber staff and Board of Directors visited Washington, D.C. to advocate on behalf of our membership to our elected officials. This year’s D.C. outing was the first since prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The group included Linda Baran (President and CEO, Staten Island Chamber of Commerce), Dom Provenzano (Staten Island Chamber of Commerce), Frank Scarangello (SCARAN, Chairman of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce), Roosevelt Board (Chick-fil-A, Staten Island Mall), Janet Magnuson (Richmond Home Need Services, Inc.), Henry Salmon (Equity Valuation Associates), and Frank Wilkinson (Rab’s Country Lanes).
Over the two-day trip, the team met with U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis.
The event was held in coordination with The Business Council’s 2023 DC Fly-In Event, in which groups like the Chamber, the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, the Business Council of Westchester, the Capital Region Chamber, and the Greater Rochester Chamber met with representatives and discussed issues important to employers in New York State.
In meetings with Staten Island and New York State representatives, the Chamber discussed issues including our opposition to the impending NYC Congestion Pricing plan, the continuation of the NYC Small Business Resource Network (SBRN), the growing issue of credit card chargebacks and the losses incurred to small businesses, and the challenges imposed by NYC fair workweek laws.
