Workshop presented by SCORE-Staten Island and Paychex to discuss workers’ benefits. legal compliance, and more
Owners and managers of small businesses will receive vital employee-related information at an upcoming Staten Island workshop Oct. 18.
Presented by SCORE-Staten Island and Paychex, the free seminar – “HR 102: A Small Business Guide to Managing Employees,” will cover a variety of rules, regulations, and best practices on a range of topics you may encounter once you have employees, including those impacting workers’ benefits; legal compliance, and employee communications.
The workshop will guide attendees toward an understanding of what fundamental benefit packages can be offered to staffers, how such benefits may impact an organization in terms of finance and morale, and how aspects of health care reform apply to small business owners.
During the seminar, owners and managers will learn how to ensure employees meet federal law requirements to prevent lawsuits, audits, and fines. Seminar will discuss such policies as: Safety and ethics straining; providing safety and loss-prevention services, and posting clear guidelines on employee expectations – from onboarding through separation.
Attendees also will learn the basics of developing a clear and effective employee handbook, with an understanding of what to include to ensure clear communication at all levels of the organization, replacing ambiguity with opportunity for employee development.
The business event, which includes lunch, will take place Thursday, Oct. 18, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at SCORE-Staten Island headquarters, fourth floor of the Staten Island Advance Building, 950 West Fingerboard Road, Grasmere.
