Anthony J. DeFazio, a former chairman of SCORE-Staten Island, has recently received the SCORE New York City Metro District’s highest honor: The Platinum Leadership Award.
“I’m humbled to be presented with this distinguished award,” said the Castleton Corners resident, who served more than nine years as a SCORE mentor and administrator at the national organization’s Island chapter, with four years as its chairman.
The recognition is based upon a volunteer’s hands-on contributions to SCORE and commitment to meritorious service.
“All the Staten Island chapter members respect and admire Anthony for his management skills, his caring, patience, humility and the meritorious service he has provided and continues to provide,” said John J. Amodio chairman of SCORE-Staten Island.
DeFazio, who honed his business acumen during a 33-year IRS career as a manager in collections and customer service, also operated a call center, walk-in offices and correspondence operations. He retired as a Colonel in the United States Army Reserve.
As a SCORE volunteer, DeFazio has mentored aspiring and established entrepreneurs on business operations; sales; marketing, and public relations. His administrative accomplishments have contributed to the Island chapter’s successful relocation from its former offices in Dongan Hills to its new headquarters at the Staten Island Advance Building in Grasmere.
DeFazio’s efforts have resulted in financial support from a variety of benefactors, such as New York City Council Discretionary Funds, the Nicotra Foundation and the Richmond County Savings Foundation, and his work has energized SCORE-Staten Island’s growing digital-communications efforts, resulting in an email list of 2,300 subscribers.
