Louis R. Miller Leadership Awards
Louis R. Miller was a tireless community activist who viewed volunteering as a way of giving something
back to his neighbors. We, at the Chamber feel that it is important to recognize those members of the
community that help to make Staten Island a great place to live and work. The purpose of the awards
breakfast is to highlight the accomplishments of outstanding small business owners and not-for-profit
organization executives on Staten Island. Nominations are reviewed by an award selection committee.
Award recipients are recognized with a feature article in the Staten Island Advance, and are honored at
an annual awards breakfast held in February. All nominees must operate a Staten Island based business.
If you know someone that you believe is a worthy recipient of this prestigious award, please complete
the form below and return it to the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce. 130 Bay Street, Staten Island,
NY 10301.Annual Dinner Dance/Gala
The Chamber has hosted an Annual Dinner Dance every year since 1985. A Dinner Dance Committee works
with Chamber staff on picking a theme, coordinating music, decorations and assisting in the operation
of the evening. Past themes have included Friday Night Fever, Island Paradise and An Evening of Silver
Screen Romance. A Night Members look forward to this elegant event every spring.Home Show
The Home Show is an event unique to the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce. This two-day exhibition
features workshops, businesses specializing in windows, doors, real estate, appliances, kitchen counters,
interior designers, financial planners, painters, gutters, patio and landscaping materials, garage
organizers, bathroom fixtures, furniture and much more. This weekend in March draws thousands of
residents from Staten Island and surrounding boroughs, proving to be a great benefit to local
businesses.Annual Police Officer of the Year Awards
This event gives the Chamber and the business community a chance to thank New York’s finest for their
hard work and bravery in keeping Staten Island a safe place to live and work. The Chamber works with the
Staten Island Advance on this special event. Every month for the year prior to the luncheon, a police
officer/s are nominated as Police Officer of the Month in the Staten Island Advance. The Chamber’s Safety
and Security Committee then reviews all the nominations and carefully chooses one officer/s to be awarded
Police Officer of the Year. The awards are presented to honorees at a luncheon each spring.Richard B. Irwin Golf Outing
Our Richard B. Irwin Golf Outing, held in the spring, is a great event to relax and network with fellow
members on the green! Golfers enjoy a breakfast before tee-off and a gourmet luncheon after the game.
Dozens of great prizes are raffled off during lunch where members can win restaurant gift certificates,
golf paraphernalia, gift baskets and more from local Staten Island businesses.Chamber Night at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark
This fun event brings Chamber members and their families together to cheer on our local Yanks’! Over 100
members enjoy a game from a private picnic area with plenty of hot dogs, burgers and soda. This
summer-time favorite is a great opportunity to take in a game with family and friends.Annual Building Awards Program
The Chamber of Commerce takes pride in this very special event. Sponsored by Time Warner Cable, the Annual
Building Awards Program takes place every fall. Local builders, contractors, architects, landscapers,
craftsman and interior decorators submit structures (residential, commercial or historical restoration)
that have been renovated, decorated or built in the past year, to be judged for an award. Structures can
win an achievement, excellence or the most honored, Chairman’s award, for their work. A team of judges
sets out in October to rate these projects and determine which award they will receive. All winning
structures are featured in a special section of the Staten Island Advance the day of the awards luncheon
and a video presentation of the reception is featured on Time Warner Cable.Annual Meeting
Every year in December, the Chamber holds an Annual Meeting. This event, beginning at 3:00, includes
honoring of members who have reached the 20, 25 or 50 year benchmark, and a ‘member town hall
meeting’ with a Q&A session. The President & CEO also reviews the past year and discusses future
initiatives and plans for the year ahead. This meeting is followed by our holiday Business After Hours.
